For Research Reports Students should prepare a manuscript in as close to the standard IMRAD format as their project allows. Titles should briefly but clearly explain the topic of the study. Abstracts must be limited to 200 words. Provide up to 10 keywords to indicate the topics related to the paper. The introduction should give background information on the general topic, explain the details of the specific study topic, and close with the objectives, hypotheses, and predictions of the study. The methods section must describe the study areas, the organisms of study, and the procedures followed to conduct the study including materials used and statistical methodologies employed. The results section should give the factual results including tables and figures plus text that describes the most important findings shown in the tables and figures. The discussion should explain the importance of the results to the study topic, relate the findings to pertinent literature, address the limitations of the study, and point to future research topics based on the results of the study. Acknowledgements should offer thanks to those who helped with the study in any way and cite sources of funding. Literature Cited should include all literature referred to in the text. Tables should come after the Literature Cited section. Follow the tables with a separate page for Figure Captions and then each figure on a separate page. For Natural History Essays and Internship Reports Students should prepare a manuscript detailing their reflections on work accomplished and observations made. These manuscripts should be well organized including an introductory paragraph that details the purpose of the report and what will be explained; internal paragraphs that include topic sentences, bodies, and closing sentences; and a conclusion that describes the overall meaning of the experience and reinforces the take-home message. Include up to 10 keywords that indicate the topics of the report. For All Manuscripts All manuscripts should be submitted to Jack Tessier (TessierJ@ccsu.edu) in electronic format as a MS Word document. Reviewers for the first year will be student volunteers and one faculty reviewer. In the second year, reviewers will be students who published in the first year and one faculty reviewer. The editor will maintain purview over final publication decisions. Authors are encouraged to include their faculty mentor as the final author on their manuscript and to incorporate their mentor’s suggestions into the manuscript. Certainly, given the range of projects that students work on, this format will not always be completed or necessary, but students should follow these guidelines as best as possible. No previously copyrighted material will be included in articles published in the journal. All material must be original productions of the authors. Students who plan to submit their manuscript to an external, peer-reviewed journal should not publish in this journal. Papers will be placed on the journal web page as soon as the final version is accepted and formatted. |
