Master of Science in Biology: Health Sciences Specialization
The Master of Science in Biology: Health Sciences Specialization is designed for students whose interests are to obtain an advanced degree in the health sciences area. Dr. R. Rollin (860-832-2659, rollin@ccsu.edu) is the program coordinator for this advanced degree.

There is one Plan leading to the Master of Science in Biology: Health Sciences Specialization degree (30-31 credits). The Plan consists of a Professional Education Component, a Major Field Component, and a Capstone Component.

Professional Education Component (6 credits)

  • ED 511, Principles of Curriculum Development (3 cr)

  • EDL 513, Supervision (3 cr)

Major Field Component (18-19 credits):

  • BIO 412, Human Physiology (3 cr)

  • BIO 413, Human Physiology Laboratory (1 cr)

  • BIO 500, Seminar in Biology (1 cr)

  • BIO 518, Applied Physiology (3 cr)

  • BIO 528, Pharmacology (4 cr)

  • CHEM 550, Basic Organic and Biological Chemistry (3 cr) or CHEM 454, Biochemistry (3 cr)

Elective courses in Biology (3-4 cr), one of the following:

  • BIO 416, Immunology

  • BIO 505, Molecular Biology

  • BIO 506/497 Biosynthesis, Bioenergetics, and Metabolic Regulation/Lab

  • BIO 540, Topics in Advanced Biology

  • BIO 562, Developmental Biology

  • BIO 590, Focused Study in Advanced Biology

  • BIO 591, Independent Research Project in Advanced Biology

Capstone Component (6 credits)

  • One of two thesis options:
    Option 1: BIO 599, Thesis (6 cr) and a thesis defense
    Option 2: BIO 599, Thesis (3 cr) and a thesis defense plus BIO 598, Research in Biology (3 cr)
