The Biology Department at Central Connecticut State University offers a variety of opportunities and experiences that cut across the broad field of biology.

Bio Newsletter The November 2008 issue of the Biology Newsletter is available throughout the Department and at this link. Operation Wallacea visited CCSU on Tuesday, 23 September, at 1:00 pm in NC 232 to discuss international opportunities to study biology in Honduras, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia, and Peru. View the flier here. Biology Senior Robert Clark won the CCSU URCAD Senior Prize. He gave his talk 4 April in the Student Center. Department of Biology Career Fair! Nine biology employers visited for students to apply for summer jobs and permanent positions on Friday, 28 March. Biology Senior Amy Kadison won the Benjamin Cummings Biology Prize Scholarship, an annual award only given to four biology majors nationwide. Dr. Doan's Evolutionary Medicine course in Fall 2007 completed excellent projects to battle infectious diseases around the world. See their projects here. Several Biology Faculty have been featured in CCSU's Courier Magazine. See the articles here. Dwight Elementary Visit Students from Dwight Elementary School visited CCSU in May 2007 and one of the activities they got to do was a biodiversity assessment led by the Biology Department. New Britain High School Visit Students from New Britain High School visited the Biology Department in May 2007. They got to see college classes, visit the vertebrate museum, tour the greenhouse, and see Student-Faculty research projects in the Biology Department. See photos here. Eastern Colleges Science Conference The Biology Department had ten students attend the April 2007 ECSC at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The students did an excellent job presenting their research in poster and oral formats. Attention Students Interested in Health Careers You can be any major at the University and be Pre-Med, Pre-Vet, or Pre-Dental. For example, the UConn Medical School requires students to have taken courses in General Biology or Zoology, General Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and English.
