ISM
211-213: Integrated Science and Mathematics
Fall
2000
Course Description
ISM 211-213 is a new, team-taught course being offered to elementary education majors in the Fall 2000. In this six-credit course you will learn meaningful content in the sciences and mathematics applicable to elementary classrooms. You will also develop skills in experimental design, data interpretation, and the design and implementation of laboratory activities for use in elementary classrooms.
Instructors will use an inquiry approach to learning, an effective teaching model that helps students make the necessary connections between mathematics and the sciences. We will make extensive use of computers throughout the course, so you will become better prepared to use technology in your teaching.
Prerequisites: The prerequisite for this course is MATH 113. ISM 211-213 will fulfill the requirements for BIO 211 (3 credits) and MATH 213 (3 credits).
